Our western South Africa Cape extensions, combined with our eastern South Africa tours, can produce up to an incredible 500 bird and 50 mammal species, including many South African endemics and near-endemics. Commencing in Cape Town, widely considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities, we set out to explore the breathtaking Cape Peninsula, the succulent Tanqua Karoo, West Coast National Park and teeming pelagic waters. Cape targets include the comical African Penguin, Black Harrier, Ludwig’s Bustard, elusive Cinnamon-breasted Warbler, attractive Victorin’s Warbler, Karoo Lark, stunning Orange-breasted and Southern Double-collared Sunbirds, Cape Sugarbird, Protea, Cape and Forest Canaries, Cape Siskin, Cape Bulbul and Cape Rockjumper, the last belonging to a family that is endemic to southern Africa. Regional endemics could include Rufous-eared Warbler, Southern Boubou, Cape Batis, Cape Grassbird, Karoo Prinia, Karoo Eremomela, Cape Weaver, Fiscal Flycatcher, Namaqua Warbler, Cape Spurfowl and Olive Thrush. An unforgettable experience is definitely a pelagic trip out to sea from Cape Town, whereby finding a fishing vessel could produce literally thousands of birds in its wake. DH & JH - South Africa: Birds, Wine & Big Game 2019

This was a huge change for me booking a more laid back tour instead of my usual hardcore birding from morning till night. I loved the change and was able to relax more and enjoy the company of the other participants and our guide, Jeremy Exelby. We were still able to get a very good number of birds interwoven with some wonderful wine tasting and excellent meals. Last but not least the last half was dedicated to Big game viewing along with birding and incredible scenery. All in all a huge success and a big thanks to a Jeremy for his enthusiasm, kindness and excellent people skills. He was a joy to be around.

South Africa

Just a quick report that we have returned home safely following a great trip to southern Africa. Everything came off as planned and the experiences were everything that we had hoped for. We really enjoyed the bush camps since they provide a remote experience with lots of animals and few other tourists. The selection of camps provided an excellent balance of habitats and wildlife viewing. Additionally, we would like to thank Athol for his excellent leadership during the Eastern South Africa tour. He is a true gentleman and excellent guide and birder.... All around we were very pleased with the trip. And, thank you and the other staff at Rockjumper for helping to put the trip together.
